The Toilet Paper Principle

If you've ever wondered how to determine if something is at it's "stock up price", check out the Toilet Paper Principle on Deal Seeking Mom.  If you had been waiting for a stock up price for tp, you can find it at Walmart on the 6-pack of White Cloud Green Earth Toilet Paper (if the price is $3.98 here in town, I'll have to check).  And the 12-roll pack priced at $5.37 is apparently the "roll back" price so get it while it lasts.  Here's a coupon to make this deal worth "stocking up" on!

UPDATE: Blogger Amber from Princeton

I didn't post a link to Amber's blog yesterday!  Go here to check it out!  Amber has a couple upcoming coupon events scheduled via Facebook.

She's hosting a Coupon Meet and Swap on Saturday, August 20th, from 10:30-11:30 at the George Coon Library in Princeton.  If you think you'd never get coupons you want from a meet and swap, think again!  We swapped coupons at the Meet & Greet and I found several good ones to bring home with me (thanks, Carolyn!).

Then, join her for a Not-So Extreme Couponing Class on Saturday, September 17th, from 10-12 at the George Coon Library in Princeton, $5 class materials fee, and RSVP via Facebook (Amber East Bryant).  I've put in a "maybe" attending for this one, I'll be there as long as my schedule permits!  September feels so far away, but it'll be here before we know it!

Planting An Egg....What?

If you read last weeks' Culinary Crafts, you remember the "plant an egg" teaser.  Check out this week's Planting An Egg for the full scoop about it!  I totally learned something new this morning, that kind of trivia just might come in handy some day.  And I am pretty sure you can put those in Ratatouille.  I used to make it for my daughter, before she was introduced to the chicken mcnugget and decided she didn't like vegetables anymore.  Happy Friday, Y'all!

Coupons To Troops

If you've been wanting to send your expired coupons to military families stationed overseas, check out this post by CuckooForCouponDeals and then check out the Coupons To Troops Facebook Page Here.

You can email admin@couponstotroops.com and request the name and contact info for a military family in need of coupons.  Then you can contact the family directly and begin sending your expired coupons directly to that family.  You could even send coupons that aren't expired!  You could even join together with fellow couponers and save on the postage!  In fact, if you bring your expired coupons to the next Couponers Meet & Greet, I'll be sure they get sent to a military family overseas.

Buying 1 Paper or 2

I think I've posted about this before.  How many papers do you buy each week?  The general recommendation is one paper for each member of your family.  I practiced this rule until about two months ago when I cut back to one paper a week.  But, I quickly realized buying one paper leaves you short a coupon when things are on sale in pairs.  So, I was happy when I found out I could get a mail delivered subscription to the Owensboro Messenger Enquirer.  Now, I get the Louisville Courier Journal on Sunday mornings and then receive the Owensboro paper on Tuesdays.  Bottomline, I recommend buying at least two copies of your favorite Sunday paper each week.

7/31 Red Plum Insert Preview

I don't know why, but I Heart The Mart is reporting there will be 4 (?) inserts on 7/31.  I don't know where that info is coming from, but I hope he's right!  For now, it seems there is a Proctor & Gamble and a Red Plum.  Here's the preview list from Sunday Coupon Preview for the Red Plum.

Did You "Like" Aunt Jemima?

Did you already "Like" Aunt Jemima on Facebook?  It's being widely reported that you can get an additional coupon from the Aunt Jemima Facebook page.  I watched the video (again) and was not allowed to print another coupon.  It told me "you have already entered".  Hope you have better luck!

Printable: SunDrop Soda BOGO

I'm not entirely sure if I have seen Sun Drop soda in the drink coolers anywhere around here.  I know I've seen it in 2 litters, though, so maybe it's out there and I never noticed!  Any hoo, My Litter has a direct print link on her site, find it here.  I try to avoid copying and posting these direct print links when I don't know where they came from.  But, I printed this one out and it looks legit, so I feel pretty safe passing it along.  If you find Sun Drop anywhere in the county, please let the rest of us know where to get it!

Meet Amber: Another Local Couponer with a Cause!

I stumbled upon a post on the West KY Couponers facebook page from a fellow couponer trying to gain interest for a coupon get together in Caldwell County.  Little did I know that there was way more to her than just that one little post!  Not only is she an avid couponer, but she's also a coupon blogger!  And there's an article about her skills in today's edition of the Times Leader (check it out on page C1 here and page C2 here).  Her name is Amber, she's a  mom, a wife, a coupon teacher, and an ethical couponer!

After messaging her on Facebook, I also learned that she's working to host a "shop for a cause" event sometime this fall/winter.  If you've been following this blog and have read my posts about the Couponers Initiative, you'll know that I am 100% in support of couponers doing good things for others!  As I often say, Couponers CAN make a difference, one donation at a time.  I hope she's able to get this event up and rolling so we can all come out and support it!  Maybe we'll see a "shop for a cause" event here in Hopkins County, too!

Refer a Friend, Get $1/2 Ronco Pasta Coupon

Here's another great coupon for Ronco pasta!  Refer your friends and get a $1 off any two Ronco products.  This coupon would be awesome for the sale at Market Place this week (2 for $0.78) if only they would accept it!  I'd tell you to price match and get 22-cents in overage, but Walmart doesn't carry Ronco pasta!  I hope with the increase in coupon usage, we'll see Market Place allow overage like Walmart.  Good luck!

YES, Kmart in Madisonville is DOUBLING coupons!

YES, Kmart in Madisonville is DOUBLING coupons
July 24th to July 30th; the participation dates are in the store ad!

The store has told at least one shopper that the doubling was only a one day deal.  I was given the same information just a little while ago when I called to check out the situation.  I asked if the store ad is different than the one I received in the mail; I think I was nice about it.  After checking with the manager the cashier came back to tell me that you have to have your Shop Your Way Rewards card to participate in the double event.  I think we already knew we needed the rewards card!  Does anyone shop without your rewards card?

So, be sure you take your sales ad and your rewards card with you if you're going Double Couponing this week at Kmart.  If you have a resistant cashier, you can show them the "Double manufacturer's coupon event up to 99-cents!" on the top of page 11 in the sales ad.  But, remember to be nice!  We're only human and we all make mistakes!  Good luck!

Special thanks to Ali who let me know she got denied her doubles yesterday!  I hope she's able to get back to the store and get the mistake corrected!

Thanks again, and happy couponing!

What do you do with your stockpile?

Good morning!  We did a back to work / back to school shopping trip yesterday.  We got home, unloaded all the bags, and brought them into the kitchen.  I unpacked them and had to leave most of it on the kitchen counter because I don't have any space in the kitchen cabinets!  So, I am wondering how do you store your surplus or stockpile?  I'm going to have to do some kind of major reorganizing!  And the sooner the better!  Anyone have any great storage techniques?

7/31 P&G Insert Preview

The 7/31 Proctor & Gamble insert preview is available at Sunday Coupon Preview!  I think all of the P&G coupons in our caddy expire on 7/31 so it's time to clean them out and get ready for a new set!  You know, we've been seeing a P&G insert each month for three months in a row now!  According to the preview schedule, we're going to keep seeing them each month (except September) until the end of the year!

Response from Coupons.com

I had sent in a question to Coupons.com about the "redeem/redeemable only" coupons we are seeing a lot of these days.  Here's the response I received:

We're sorry to hear you had trouble using your coupons. Please rest assured that coupons printed from Coupons.com are valid manufacturer offers and that we are working hard with the retail community to address their concerns, and to satisfy you, our mutual customer. For example, you can go to PrintCoupons.com right now and authenticate a printed coupon, which we encourage store managers who have questions or concerns to do. I have attached some information regarding our online coupons for your review.

We have been working directly with many major retailers and almost all of them have an official policy to accept printable coupons as long as they are not for free product and as long as they scan properly at the register. You can usually find a coupon acceptance policy online at the retailer's website. If that policy says the store accepts printed coupons, we recommend you print it off from the website and bring it in with you on your next visit to the store.

Customer Service didn't really address the issue of "redeem/redeemable only" coupons.  It really seems like no one has a specific answer to the question!  I think the decision to accept or not accept these coupons will be left up to the store.  This is a "your mileage/manager may vary" situation until I can find someone who can actually answer the question!

Have you had any luck using one of these coupons locally?  I haven't tried it, but I have used the catalina coupons from Walgreens at both Kroger and Walmart without much trouble.  The catalina coupons look very different from a regular paper coupon so it caught the cashier's attention in both stores.  They initially told me I couldn't use them because they were Walgreens coupons, I think they say "redeem at Walgreens".  When I explained that it is a manufacturer's coupon the cashier scanned it, and the register accepted it.  It may not work out this way every time, so I'm always prepared to have the coupons returned to me.  If the coupon says "redeem at" I would go ahead and use it at any retailer, because "redeem at" is more of a suggestion to the consumer.  But, the coupons that have "only" in the wording, those I'd be a little more cautious about.  If any coupon is going to be denied, it would be those "only" coupons!  Good luck!

Thanks again, and happy couponing.

I met a Facebook Friend Yesterday!

I kind of got "spotted" at Walmart yesterday.  Not from the blog, but from Facebook!  She and I were actually at Walgreens at the same time and she thought she recognized me but wasn't sure.  Then we saw each other again at Walmart and I asked "weren't you just at Walgreens?" and she asked "Are you Misty?"  It was really a funny moment for me, and I'm glad she recognized me, because I am totally oblivious when I am out and about.  So, hi Tera, it was nice to meet you in person!  I loved your story about the razors!

Something else I did notice while shopping yesterday, there were a lot of folks with binders!  Coupon binders!  I may have to retire the coupon caddy and go back to the binder.  It's back to school shopping time and binders are every where right now.  That may be a project to do after the kiddos are back in school in a few weeks.  I see a little peace and quiet in my future, should be perfect for couponing!

Thanks again, and happy couponing!

Yes!  Kmart is doubling coupons again this week!  It is in the ad you should have gotten in your mail box, on the very top of the next to the last page!  So dig out your coupons with a Face Value of 99-cents and under and head to Kmart!  I love the double coupon events!  You can get really great deals with the right coupon!

Update: Louisville Inserts

The inserts from today's Louisville Courier Journal should look like this:

Thank you to the Ideal in Nortonville for having the correct inserts!

Louisville Courier: No RedPlum Today?

Not sure if it is just the copy I got, but there was only a SmartSource insert in the Louisville Courier today!  If you got a copy, did you get both inserts?  Maybe the RedPlum is just missing from this copy?

The Tale of the Skinny Cow

I really hope you enjoy this as much as I did!  I really did laugh out loud!  But, first a little back story.  I have a friend, let's call her Harry, and she was an Extreme Couponer before there was such a thing, but she became semi-retired from couponing and is now getting started again.  She had read my post about the new Skinny Cow candybars and how wonderful I think they are so when she came across these in her grocery store, she knew she had to try them!  Plus, she had a coupon AND they were on sale, way to go Harry!  Here is the funny story she sent me as a result.  Names and locations have been changed to protect the innocent!

Gift Basket Sneak Peek!

If you read the invite on We Use Coupons (Click Here!) for the Couponers Meet & Greet, you'll recall that I said I'd post a sneak peek at the Gift Basket.  Well, I didn't have the basket until today!  So, here's the first sneak peek!

It's not a very big basket, but I loved the color!  It matches the blog!  And I think I can get lots of goodies in there.  Not sure if I'll get another sneak peek pic posted, you may have to wait until the Couponers Meet & Greet Monday to check it out!

The New DataBar Coupon Code

If you haven't already noticed it on many of the coupons we've gotten recently, there's a new bar code in town.  It's on the right side of the traditional bar code we all know and love.  Retailers will have several months to get their cash registers updated or we will begin to see major coupon redemption problems!  Let's hope that our local retailers are already up to date!

This Week's Dollars & Sense: Line Dry v. Electric Dryer

Read this week's Dollars & Sense!  It's all about line drying your laundry instead of using the electric dryer.  And, yes, it counts if you hang your laundry on the shower bar or the treadmill!  Anyone know how to keep the hanger ends from makes those little "peaks" on the shoulder of your shirts?  I wonder what kind of difference I would see in my electric bill if I stopped drying most of my laundry in the electric dryer?  That just might be a challenge I set for myself!  Here's an added bonus:  if you hang up the laundry straight out of the washer, you can move it right into your closet once it's dry...no more piles of laundry in the laundry basket!  Win / Win!  Thanks, Leigh!

Kroger Matchups Courtesy of Southern Savers

I always get my Kroger Matchups from Southern Savers (or I Heart Kroger).  Here's the lisings for 7/24.  Just Click Here!  Thanks, Southern Savers, for a great MatchUp!

Caution: There's a matchup for Knorr Rice/Pasta but I don't think the coupon listed is for the rice and pasta sides; try that one at your own risk!  Sometimes, the prices are different for Madisonville Kroger, so be sure to compare the matchup with the online ad tomorrow before you shop!  Also, Crayola Crayons are 2/$1 instead of 25-cents each for us-boo!

Lanacane Free Sample

As I thumbed through the August issue of Woman's Day I came across an ad for Lanacane Anti-Chafing Gel.  And you can get a FREE sample!  Request your FREE sample here!  The ad says:  Lanacane Anti-Chafing Gel dries on contact, has a silky, smooth feel and lasts as long as you need it to.  So you're allowed the comfort and freedom to carry on doing all the things you want to do.  It also says you can find this product at Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, and RiteAid!

Cheap TP at Staples

It's a weird day when the cheapest place to buy toilet paper is at the office supply store!  But, for about the past month, this has been the case with Charmin toilet tissue and Staples.  The 16-roll package of Charmin Basic (the orange package) has been $4.99 since June 29th and will remain that price through July 30th.  Considering the 12 pack price is about $5.37 for other brands, paying $4.99 is a great price for 16 rolls even without additional savings.  But, if you were fortunate enough to receive the 20% off coupon from Staples, you can get those 16 rolls for 25-cents a piece!  I wasn't lucky enough to get this coupon in my email, but I hope some of you were!

Thanks again, and happy couponing!

HCC on the Front Page, Web Page, that is!

Click Here to Read the Article!

All I can say is...OMG!  I knew a great article by the lovely and delightful Leigh Douglas was coming to iSurf Hopkins County, but it's just indescribable to see it officially posted!  I am on cloud nine, happy as a clam, and so proud of all the great things couponers are going to do for our community!  And, yep, that's me and my coupon caddy (and my Arby's dinner!) in the photos along with the article!  I love to take photos but when it comes to being on the other side of the lens, I am a little camera shy!  Did you notice all the exclamation marks in this first paragraph?!

If you've found the blog through the iSurf article, let me take a moment to say:  Welcome to The Hopkins County Couponer!  I hope to see lots of new faces at the next Couponers Meet & Greet next Monday night!  An extra special thankyou to Tammy who also helped put together the Couponers Meet & Greet.  Honestly, without her support and guidance, I don't know if that first meeting would have happened!  Amy, thank you for inspiring me to start couponing in the first place!  I owe my crazy stockpile all to you!  And to Leigh, gosh, thank you just isn't big enough to express my gratitude!

Just like the article says, I started this blog because there were no blogs devoted to shopping at the grocery stores we have here in Hopkins County.  The Food Giant family of grocery stores can be found in eight states and I never once found a coupon blog with the weekly sales ad and coupon matchups.  So, I decided to create this blog and post the Coupon Matchups myself.  You can find it on the blog every Wednesday!  (I didn't mention Kroger, because Kroger is covered on nearly all of the big coupon websites/blogs.)

And don't forget, "Couponers CAN make a difference, one donation at a time."  It's a great thing when you can use coupons to save money for your family.  But, it's a wonderful thing when you can use coupons to save money and help others, too.  Please take a moment to read the Initiative page (found here).  The best part is, you don't have to break your budget to do good things for others, and you don't always have to shop with coupons.  Just think, if you start buying a can of soup or vegetables each week (buy what's on sale) in a year, you'd have 52 canned goods to donate and your budget would barely notice the difference.  My focus on savings right now is for school supplies and snacks (I am a stay at home mom, afterall!).  You can purchase an incredible amount of school supplies for a buck at Market Place through next Tuesday.  And there is a great sale on Cheese Nips at Food Giant and Sureway (with the right coupon, you can get a 12oz box for 75-cents).  Walgreens and Staples also have great prices on back to school items.

Thank you so much for stopping by the blog.  See you at the Couponers Meet & Greet on Monday night at Arby's!  Don't forget to "like" us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, and sign up for the daily email!  Got a great money saving tip or idea, email it to:  hopkinscountycouponer@gmail.com

Thanks again, and happy couponing!
